Member Profile: A Personal Perspective From Simmone Taitt on being a Black Woman and CEO. Finally Home and Jersey City Community member, Simmone Taitt shares a personal note about being a black woman and CEO and shines a light on institutional racism within the maternal healthcare system.

Last night, in a massive show of solidarity, Jersey City came together, strong and united, to stand up with the Black community in protest of police brutality and racial injustice. While the images of Jersey City Police Officers and thousands of community members calmly kneeling in support fill me with immense pride and love for my city, I am acutely aware this is a minor part in a long path to true racial equality. One that requires each of us to play our part, use our voice and stand-up against hate. Now is the time we have to ask ourselves, how can we do more, how we can each be part of this long needed change.

The inspiring Jersey City stories that deserve to be celebrated, preserved and admired. It’s the neighborhood businesses who prioritize the integrity of their craft and the comfort of their patrons above all else. It’s the food that fills our hearts and souls, the backdrop to our daily lives and the places that become an extension of home. Above all, it is everything that makes us proud to be part of this city  the incredible community of people.

Finally Home Jersey City member Profiles: Irina Schneid, founder Impact Wrkshp Project. a twelve-week social-advocacy fellowship for graduate students. A professor at The Pratt Institute , Irina Schneid focuses on teaching her students the importance of designing for impactful change and community and through Impact Wrkshp she’s bringing that important mission locally.

By unearthing our lived experiences, we discover the unique gifts we hold, common challenges we share, and new insights that help us see things in new ways. Founder, Simmone Taitt discovered the power of emotional and mental support after her own devastating miscarriage in 2016. It was her own lived experience that fueled her mission of making that type of support, information, and experience sharing to the millions of birthing people across the country and the world. She founded Poppy Seed Health as a telehealth solution to transform the way we care for mothers, parents, and caregivers regardless of where their journey begins and where it leads.
