Ashokan Rail Trail
Opened in the fall of 2019, the Ashokan Rail Trail (“ART”) is a 11.5-mile recreational trail runs along Ashokan Reservoir between West Hurley and Boiceville. The ART trail surface is 12 feet in width and surfaced with highly compacted fine crushed stone perfect for hiking, walking dogs on leash, bicycling, running, nature observation, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The ART was developed by the County of Ulster through an historic partnership with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”), which owns and operates the Ashokan Reservoir and adjacent lands. Open from sunrise to sunset year-round, the ART has provided public access to the County’s scenic abandoned Ulster & Delaware Railroad corridor without a DEP Access Permit for the first time since the Reservoir was constructed in 1911.

Mohonk Mountain
Unlike anything else in the Hudson Valley — or Upstate New York - is the Mohonk Mountain House. A massive castle perched a top one of Hudson Valley’s mountain peeks, Mohonk’s beauty stretches in each direction.
The star of the show at Mohonk Mountain House is not the House itself, rather, its surrounding landscape. Its many trails are easy to follow with a map, head out alone, on a guided hike or hire a resident naturalist. The absolute can’t-miss trail is the Sky Top Path, which skirts along the cliffs that overlook Mohonk Lake, offering incredible views all the way up. At the top, its legendary tower sits high in the clouds, and an incredible place to take in a sunrise or sunset. Other popular Mohonk hiking trails include Eagle Cliff and Bonticou Crag
