A Brief History of the Jersey City Public Library

The New Jersey Room at the Jersey City Public Library is a treasure-trove of historic and current information on New Jersey, Hudson County and Jersey City. In it you will find an elaborate collection of books numbering 20,000 in addition to a complete representation of all published Jersey City directories dating from 1849 to 1925; an index for the Jersey Journal dating back to 1912; a picture collection of over 13,000 images; hundreds of historic and contemporary maps; over 150 periodicals and more. Since opening it’s doors in 1901, Jersey City’s Public Library has remained the heart and soul of the surrounding community. A true Jersey City gem.
