A Tour of Jersey City’s thriving Street-Art Culture with Green Villain.

Finally Home partner, member and local artist, the Green Villain, discusses street art as a form of activism and how painting murals builds unity amongst a city's vast array of communities.

About Street Art.

Mural Arts programs have, in recent years, become a popular way of injecting art, creativity, and life into previously neglected public spaces.

The best public art installations reflect a city's character and creative energy, telling the story of its residents, neighborhoods, integrity, and diversity.

Public Art for All.

If you're a lover of graffiti and street art, just outside New York City is the secret gem in the street art world - Jersey City. In exploring, you will find a variety of murals that are unique, powerful, and a true representative of the dynamic personality of each neighborhood.

Benefits of Street Art for community.

Murals offer accessibility to art and creative expression without the cost of traditional mediums of artistic expression. They promote a sense of identity, belonging, attachment, and connectivity, pillars in creating a sense of place for those around it.

Murals provide their surrounding communities social, cultural, and economic benefits as well as positive effects on mental health. They very frequently promote the characteristics of the individuality of each neighborhood. Murals connect artists, community organizations, small businesses, developers, cultural and educational institutions, and more.

More on Green Villain.

Over the past 11 years, Green Villain has amassed 53 public art sites and built relationships with hundreds of artists, business owners, landlords, city officials, and community members to spread awareness of how public art can change a city for good, and in times of need, be used as a vehicle to get important messages out to people. "I believe it's the responsibility of every individual alive today to take a part of the community they live in onto their shoulders and walk blindly into the light to improve a piece of their world.” Gregory D. Edgell of Green Villain.
