Earth Day & Second Chance Toys

Jersey City Charity Event

Raising donations and awareness for Second Chance Toys, an organization centered around responsible recycling of used plastic toys.

A single act of kindness can change the world for a child in need, and so can a toy. No one understands this better than a mom so it’s no surprise that Second Chance Toys receives enormous support from the mom & influencer community.Passionate people across the country have shared the Second Chance Toys story and mobilized others to get involved.

Gently used plastic toys were donated by local Finally Home community members whos children were shown the joy of giving to those less fortunate. Along with each toy, kids wrote and drew cards that went along with their donation and were taught the importance of recycling and protecting our Earth.

Given the nature of plastic, the toys often show little signs of wear. When these “good-as-new” toys are thrown out, they become waste in a landfill, take up a lot of space, and do not biodegrade. Hand in hand with this wastefulness is the fact that many children in the United States own few or no toys at all.

Nearly 14 million children in the United States – 22% of all children – live in families with incomes below the federal poverty level – $22,050 a year for a family of four. Just by donating a gently used plastic toy, you can make a world of difference in the life of a disadvantaged child and at the same time help keep non biodegradable plastics out of our landfills.

Four large bags of toys were collected and donated to The Greater Bergen Community Action Organization and were distributed to their school in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey.

Our friends at Partake Foods served some special treats to all we attended.

Food allergies affect 1 in 13 children across our country, and according to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), Black children are at a significantly higher risk of developing these allergies. Getting safe food into the hands of food insecure families with food allergies is a top priority for Partake. We are partnering with Food Equality Initiative to ensure families in need have access to the food, education and advocacy they deserve.

The Second Chance Toys Vision

“Our goal is to create a movement dedicated to donating toys to children in need and keeping them out of landfills so that local communities in the U.S. and beyond are participating in our collections.

By providing the necessary resources, step-by-step instructions and facilitating essential connections with local organizations, Second Chance Toys is working to empower a growing number of individuals and groups to create their own local collections.”
